Corporate Social Responsibility & Community Partnerships
The Babraham Institute and BBT strive to ensure that we are a good neighbour to the small village of Babraham where the campus is situated. We maintain an open and constructive dialogue with residents, which include some of our own staff, about our activities, future developments and their potential impact on the village and its residents.
We hold an open evening each year for all village residents so they can hear about recent campus developments and visit new facilities, about Babraham science and also the opportunity to raise any issues with the Director of the Institute, other scientists and senior management. The Institute also takes its science to the residents of Cambridge and beyond through our Science & Society programme and exhibitions at the Cambridge Science Festival.
Locally, the Institute has developed more regular contact with members of the Parish Council; we help to maintain the village cricket/football ground and churchyard wall and are working together with the local Babraham primary school in their developments. Conscious of the impact of traffic to the Institute on a small village, a new entrance to the campus from the A1307 was completed in 2008, diverting traffic away from the village.
The environmental impact of new buildings on the surrounding landscapes is carefully considered; environmentally-conscious specifications and design is critical for all campus developments. We are committed to protecting our environment and understanding our environmental impacts, monitoring and reducing any adverse impacts of the organisations' operations on the environment and local community.
